Apurimac River 3 days
programthis exciting white water rafting expedition is rated among the 10 best of world class rivers. We start our trip from cusco (3,400 ms) driving for 4 hours across the andes down to the apurimac river which in the native quechua language means speaker of the gods. This river is also the most direct source of the amazon river. We put-in at 2,000 ms, from here it will take about two hours to prepare all the equipment. We will have lunch and raft down to our first camp. All the meals are prepared by our staff on a campfire under the night sky of the southern hemisphere. The next day we arrive at an narrow canyon with an impassable rapid where we have to do a portage for about 300 ms. Most of the time we will raft class iii plus and class iv rapids, but we also have a few class iv plus and class v rapids. Among the wildlife in this remote and isolated canyon we can find river otters, bob cats, foxes, torrent ducks andcormorants.
Day 1:
We leave cusco at 8:30 am. We drive 4 hours through the andes, arriving at the put-in spot at hualpachaca bridge. We will prepare all the rafting equipment such as; self-bailing rafts, oars, paddles, coolers, helmets, life jackets, wet suits etc. You will be given a safety talk and you will do some drills in rafting techniques. Afterwards we will float for about 2 hours doing introductory class 2/3 rapids. You will camp in a narrow gorge with impressive walls. Tea time and dinner will be served (l+d).
Day 2:
After a healthy breakfast we start early and run class iii, iv rapids. We pass “la mesa” and later in the afternoon arrive on a beautiful sandy beach to camp under the night sky of the southern hemisphere and the “milky way”. (b+l+d).
